God's Leading

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.  Gal. 5:16 KJV

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.  Rom. 8:14 KJV

I thought of the above scriptures when I asked myself would the God of heaven lead one of his ministers to have a public burning of Qurans to bring attention to the evils of Islam or for any other reason.  In the world which we live, when the smallest deed in the remotest location has the potential to be witnessed by the whole world, would God lead his servant to do an act that will potentially provoke the wrath or ill-will of about one and a half billion people towards Christianity?  Would the God of the Bible inspire a godly man to provoke a small group of radicals in another religion to violence by an unnecessary action that does nothing to further the gospel of Jesus Christ?  For several weeks, our nation discussed the possibility that the lone actions of a very small group of people had the potential to provoke the death of innocent people by performing an act that was sure to provoke radical people to defend their religion.  What is the proper Christian response to such activities?  This is where our scripture comes into play.

The godly are encouraged to walk in the Spirit so they do not fulfill the lust of their flesh.  The godly servants of Jesus Christ have a desire to advance the interest of God as demonstrated by Jesus Christ.  To do this effectively, the godly are told to walk after the leading of the Spirit of God instead of the leading of the flesh.  If Jesus Christ is not going to be lifted up in his role of redeemer, then the Spirit of God is not interested in lifting up other causes.  As God’s servants, we are here to share the redemption that can only be found in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.  The best way to achieve this goal is to be the light that Jesus instructed we would be in this world.  Following the leading of the Spirit of God is the only sure fire way to be the light that Jesus wanted us to be.  Provoking people to wrath is not being a city that is set upon a hill that will attract people to the light of Christ.  Embracing the characteristics of Jesus Christ in our lives to the extent people can see what it means to be a Christian will do more to help people find Jesus Christ than performing an act that inspires hatred against Jesus Christ.
