Psalms 120:1

Thoughts on Psalms 120:1

There is a time when everyone will find him or herself in a tight place.  This is what is meant when the psalmist says in his distress he cried unto the Lord.  The psalmist found himself in a tight place which stressed him.  The stress may have manifested itself in the form of fear, hurt, or circumstances.  Being found in such a place, the psalmist did not turn to his devices.  He did not throw up his hands and give up because of the situation.  The psalmist knew Jehovah as a God one can turn to in the day of distress.  The part of this verse the saints can take comfort in is the part where the Lord heard the cry of the psalmist.  The same God that heard the cry of the psalmist will hear the cry of God’s people in the time of distress.  It is easy to call on God when we are not under distress.  However, in the time of distress, this verse gives God's people an assurance that we can turn to God.  We can know from this verse that Jehovah is a God that reigns over the issues of life that causes distress.
