Total Surrender

Total Surrender

Jim Elliot wrote, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep; to gain that which he cannot lose.”

Jim was one of five missionaries who were killed by a group of the Waodani people in Curray River, Ecador in 1956 as they attempted to share the good news of Jesus Christ with them.

Jim died at the age of 28, but his heart was fixed and his mind was set to please God even if it meant that the would lose his natural life.  Jim had met Jesus, the Wonderful Savior, who gave him eternal life, and no sacrifice was too great for him to make for his Wonderful Savior.  Jim was willing to surrender his all to the Savior.

Is your heart fixed to please God?  Is your mind set to please God?  Have you answered the call to surrender yourself totally to God?  Romans 12:1, “I beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

What does it mean to give your body a living sacrifice to God?  It means to surrender yourself wholly to God.  It means to surrender the rights to your life.  It means to surrender the right to order your life the way you want and say Lord, “I am yours. Lord, take my life.  Plan it and direct it the way you choose.  I will follow as you lead.”  It means to obey the Lord in all things in every area of your life.  I will do whatever pleases Him.

Let us pray, Oh God, help me to give you what I cannot keep (my life) to gain that which I cannot lose (eternal life) as long as I am surrendered to you.
