REVOLUTION GOING ON
What happens in a Revolution? In a Revolution, the status quo is being challenged and overthrown. What is the status quo? The status quo is the condition of keeping things the way they presently are without changes. What does the status quo look like in the church today? Let’s listen for a moment to one of the church members as he thinks about his place in the work of the church today. “Well it's like this, once again we come to the house of God to be fed, and once again we go home. We try to be concerned about what goes on outside our four church walls you know.” We think it is terrible about how the world is becoming worse and worse, but we can’t do much about it. The people of the world don't want to come to church anymore. Therefore, I guess we will keep on shaking our heads and wringing our hands about the condition of the world, and look forward to our next spiritual meal at the house of God. We go to church on Sunday and midweek service. We give a little money too, and we tell someone we are a Christian and invite them to church every once in a while. We work and take care of our families and read our bibles too. We want to be good Christians and go to heaven you know."
Too few Christians believe it is their job to spread the gospel. They hear the staggering news every day that reveals how the world desperately needs to hear and accept the gospel of Christ, but they are not moved to action. Let's look at some staggering facts. Everyday around 150,000 people die worldwide, and the majority of them don’t know Christ. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among 15 – 24 year olds and the sixth leading cause of death among 5-14 year olds. Almost 100,000 people are shot or killed with a gun every year. Almost 1 in 5 high school students admitted carrying a weapon in 2007. Every second $ 3,075.64 is being spent on pornography. The largest group of viewers of internet pornography is children between 12 and 17 years old. We could go on and on about the condition of our world without Christ.
For many professed Christians, the condition of the world means no more than a sad report they hear, and then go on their way to take care of themselves and their family. There is a Revolution going on! Look! Look! See blood washed people on every street corner singing, crying and preaching, “Come to Jesus. There is no other name given among men whereby one may be saved.”
Look, I see one-legged Bob in a wheel chair on the streets telling the story of Jesus. Look! Look, there is blind Sue walking with her sister and telling the story of how Jesus brought her into His marvelous light. Look! A group of children and teens with the gospel band blowing their horns and singing, “Come! Come Follow the Lamb of God who will set you free from sin today.”
Listen! Listen do you hear that sound coming from the other side of town? It's a group of the elderly walking with their canes in one hand and the Bible in the other hand. They are shouting, “Jesus Saves! He is calling the oppressed. Come, ye heavy laden. Come to Him and rest.”
Rise up! Rise up, O Church of God! Get up off your seat. Stop hoping the world will come to your church door. GO! GO! GO, into the highways and byways and compel them to come to Jesus.
I bid you listen to others who joined the Revolution. William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, “Not called did you say? Not heard the call, I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear Him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin…”
O Church of God, I pray, I cry and echo these words of William Booth, "Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help. Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father's house and bid their brothers and sisters not to come there. 'THEN LOOK CHRIST IN THE FACE -- WHOSE MERCY YOU HAVE PROFESSED TO OBEY -- AND TELL HIM WHETHER YOU WILL JOIN HEART AND SOUL AND BODY AND CIRCUMSTANCES IN THE MARCH TO PUBLISH HIS MERCY TO THE WORLD.'
C .T. Studd, Missionary to China, India and Africa, said, “Some wish to live within the sound of a chapel bell. I wish to run a rescue mission within a yard of hell.” Hear the words of Jesus, “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15) As you start each day, think about the 150,000 people that will die that day and pray that God will help you to reach the people He wants you to reach for that day. May your heartbeat with irresistible passion, and you find no rest until you reach the last lost soul He sends you to rescue.
